Located along the southern Atlantic coast of Portugal, the Algarve Region is famous for its 300 km of coastline including long stretches of sandy beaches with calm Turquoise waters, beautiful rock cliffs, secluded coves and numerous beautiful rock formations, arches and caves. In the region some of the best beaches in Europe, most are graded Blue Flag for their facilities and quality standards, including Marinha Beach between Albufeira and Carvoeiro considered one of the best in the world. The western Algarve coastline, between Sagres and Odeceixe in the north, have some of the best surfing beaches in Europe but with almost no tourists’ facilities. The beaches in the region offer also great opportunities for water sports, including sailing, surfing and windsurfing, and the region’s modern marinas along the southern coast offers high level support and infrastructure for yachts visiting the area.
While vacationing in the Algarve enjoy in addition to great beaches and tourist’s facilities, heritage and culture experiences in Its Resort Towns such as Tavira, Lagos, and Albufeira, and in the Historic Town of Silves or the Market Town of  Loule.

There are various types of vacation resorts in the Algarve.

  • High end resorts offering exclusive modern facilities such as Vilamoura and Praia da Rocha.
  • Small and more relaxed resorts such as Carvoeiro, Alvor, and Sagres.
  • Resorts offering bustling nightlife with “party vibes” such as Albufeira, Praia da Rocha, and Lagos, for younger tourists.


In general, the central and western Algarve are more popular while the eastern part is less touristic providing authentic Portuguese experiences.
In addition to the great beaches the Algarve offers great attractions and and activities opportunities.

  • The Algarve Region is considered one of the best golfing destinations in the world with its championship level international Golf courses scattered throughout the region and highly accessible. The region’s Golf courses offer beautiful settings, high quality facilities, some challenging and other easier courses.
  • Families with children will enjoy in addition to the great beaches, numerous children’s attractions including waterparks, marine park, carting course, and more.
  • Other great attractions include boat cruises to the famous Algarve Caves and sea rock formations including the Benagil Cave
  • Dolphin watching trips, or deep-sea fishing cruises.

The Algarve offers also great day trips opportunities to various destinations.

The Algarve Region has Mediterranean type climate with warm, ~30 degrees, summers, and mild, ~ 15 degrees, winters, with the popular seasons being Spring through to Automn.

The Algarve Region is served by Faro International Airport, where the town of Faro is excellently connected with public transportation to all parts of the region.
People having a vacation in the Algarve will usually spend a week or more in the area.
