• The Monchique Mountains Range

The picturesque Serra de Monchique Mountain Rang, sometime referred to as the Garden of the Algarve, is 26 km north of Portimao, and 47 km northeast of Lagos, offering scenic roads and magnificent scenery of the green mountains and hills all the way to the Atlantic Ocean.

Part of a relaxed day trip, drive the scenic N266 to the charming village of Caldas de Monchique and the town of Monchique.

  • Caldas de Monchique is famous for its hot springs and SPA known for their therapeutic capabilities, with a close by natural spring at Fonte dos Amores within a forest.
  • Traveling with children, visit Parque da Mina 3 km south of the village, to enjoy an early 8th century house presenting 18-20th centuries way of life including a wine cellar and a distillery, and an old farm with numerous bird’s species and farm animals to pet.
  • In Monchique, stroll the narrow cobbled streets and enjoy the open air cafes, small local shops, the beautiful view points, and the nearby Mount Foia summit, the highest in the mountain range.
  • On the way back consider taking the scenic N267 west to the village of Aljezur and all the way down to the beautiful Praia da Amoreira.
