Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, and Koh Tao, form Thailand’s most accessible and diverse island’s cluster, 40-80 km from the mainland’s Surat Thani coast. The islands offer experiences ranging from luxury resorts to backpacker beaches, five-star SPAs to Full Moon parties, spiritual wellness retreats, world-class diving and some of the world’s most affordable scuba diving certification.
The islands are connected by multiple daily ferries enabling effortless islands-hopping, visiting a mix of islands to comply with the traveler’s diversified preferences and budget. The year-round options and the range from budget to luxury accommodations serve every traveler type.
Whether seeking great diving and snorkeling sites, legendary parties, spiritual yoga retreats, family beaches or secluded and tranquil beaches, the Gulf Islands deliver all.

Koh Samui
The largest, most developed, and highly popular island is the Gulf’s primary gateway and a luxury, family-friendly, resort hub. The island’s beaches, the beachfront properties and resorts, and the attractions, are all clustered along the coast with the forested mountainous interior remaining largely undeveloped. The east coast is where the main tourism resorts are at Chaweng and Lamai beaches, the north coast preserves more charm in beaches such as Bo Phut and Maenam, and the western beaches are more tranquil and secluded.
Chaweng Beach along the east coast, is the island’s most vibrant, busiest and commercial strip with its numerous Thai and International dining, shopping and nightlife venues.
Enjoy water sports activities and attractions including waterfalls, temples, the iconic Big Buddha statue, and more. The island is the most convenient and comfortable of the Gulf islands for those seeking resort amenities and reliability.

Koh Phangan
Koh Phangan is home to the famous Full Moon Party scene while simultaneously serving as Southeast Asia’s premier wellness and spiritual retreat destination. The island consists of mountainous jungle interior with beaches scattered around the coastline.
The southern coast at Haad Rin is where the full moon parties are held, and the north coast at Haad Salad, Haad Yao, and Chaloklum, balances development with tranquility while hosting the wellness community offering yoga retreats, meditation centers, and more.
Beyond the party scenes and the wellness programs lies an island of jungle-covered mountains, spectacular multi-tiered waterfalls, pristine beaches accessible only by boat and jungle trails. Koh Phangan is significantly less developed than Koh Samui or Phuket appealing to those looking for less polished, more adventurous island experience.

Koh Tao
Koh Tao is the smallest of the three islands known for being a Scuba Diving and Diving Certification paradise, with more than 50 dive schools and numerous excellent diving sites. The island is rich with marine life, at 5-30 meters deep shallow warm water, 10-30 meters visibility, and with additional diving sites only 15-30 minute away by boat.
In the island many dive shops, dive cruises boats, dive instructors, and all the other services and infrastructure required.
Koh Tao has limited appeal beyond diving, snorkeling, and backpacker social scene.
Only budget to mid-range accommodations are available attracting backpackers and young travelers.

Ang Thong National Marine Park
Mu Ko Ang Thong National Marine Park is 30 km west of Koh Samui and Koh Phangan in the Gulf of Thailand. The archipelago is home to 42 limestone karst islands rising dramatically from turquoise water. In the islands forested peaks, vertical cliffs, sea caves, hidden lagoons, pristine beaches, and coral reefs, all creating one of Thailand’s most spectacular natural destinations.

The Gulf Islands’ high season is in December-February, with dry, sunny, minimal rain weather, calm sea and best diving visibility, but highly crowded and more expensive.
The Shoulder Seasons are the hot March-April, and September-November which has some rain. The Monsoon Season in May-August has afternoon storms, the sea is rougher but manageable, the crowds are minimal, and prices are the lowest.

Accessing the islands can be by flying into Koh Samui’s international airport, or by taking a ferry from Surat Thani, which in turn can be reached by flight, or bus/train from Bangkok.
Traveling within the islands use Songthaews, Shared Trucks, Taxis and Boat Taxis, or Motorbike and Car Rentals.
