Koh Samui is the largest and most developed island in the Gulf of Thailand serving as the Gulf’s primary gateway and a luxury, family-friendly, resort hub.
Koh Samui is Thailand’s second most popular island destination after Phuket.
The island’s beaches, the beachfront properties and resorts, and the attractions, cluster along the coast with the forested mountainous interior remaining largely undeveloped except for hilltop viewpoints and waterfalls.
The east coast is where the main tourism resorts are at Chaweng and Lamai beaches, the north coast preserves more charm in beaches such as Bo Phut and Maenam, and the western beaches are more tranquil and secluded.
Chaweng Beach along the east coast, is the island’s most vibrant, busiest and commercial strip with its numerous dining, shopping and nightlife venues.
At the Bo Phut Beach enjoy the Fisherman’s Village and the Friday Walking Street Market cultural attraction.
Admire the Big Buddha 12 meters high golden statue, the island’s iconic religious and cultural monument, and the Wat Plai Laem striking contemporary temple in the northeast coast. For a day in nature, enjoy the beautiful Na Muang Waterfalls and the Hin Lad Waterfall, the Secret Buddha sculptures garden up in the mountains, and admire the beautiful sunset from one of the island’s viewpoints.

Families with children can spend time in one of the dedicated attractions such as
Coco Splash Adventure & Waterpark, the Samui Aquarium and Tiger Zoo, or the small Butterfly Garden, in addition to water sports activities in a beach, snorkeling and more.
While vacationing in the island take a Thai Massage, a Thai Cooking Class, a Muay Thai training sessions, or participate in a Yoga or Wellness program.
In the beach, enjoy Jet Skiing, Parasailing, Banana Boat, Kayaking, snorkeling and other water sports activities.
Samui’s infrastructure, the international airport, the well maintained circling road, and the comprehensive services, make it the most convenient and comfortable island for those seeking resort amenities and reliability such as families, couples, and affluent travelers.
Getting Around Koh Samui use Songthaews Shared Trucks, Taxies, and Motorbike and Car Rental. Access the island by flying into its international airport, by ferry from Surat Thani in the mainland, or from the other gulf islands.
The best time to visit the island is in the high season, December-February, when the weather is dry and sunny with minimal rain. For less crowds and lower prices consider visiting in September-November with some rain but less crowds and better prices.
Spend at least 2-3 days visiting Koh Samui, and while on the island consider taking a boat day trip for sea kayaking or for diving and snorkeling in nearby sites such as the Sail Rock.
Combine your visit with visits to Koh Phangan, to Koh Tao for snorkeling and diving, and to Ang Thong National Marine Park for its magnificent scenery.
