Praia da Rocha is a lively and large modern Beach Resort somewhat more luxurious, home to one of the best beaches in Algarve, offering all the required vacation facilities, and vibrant night life especially in the major resort street of Avenida Tomas Cabreira.
The beach resort is a walking distance from Ribeirinha de Portimao, the lively waterfront part of the city of Portimao, which by itself is a nice attraction for few hours visit.
Praia da Rocha is a 1.2 km long sandy beach surrounded by high cliffs and considered the widest in Algarve, hence it would never feel overcrowded. Enjoy calm and clean waters, safeguards, a long promenade home to numerous restaurants, cafes, and bars, beach sports and water sports areas, and all the required facilitiese.
There are few beaches, described by TheTjoy.com, in and around the beach resort.

  1. West of Praia da Rocha the beautiful Praia dos Tres Castelos, with the three sea rock formations, great for snorkelling between the rocks.
  2. Further west you will enjoy the much less crowded and picturesque Praia do Amado, Praia dos Careanos, and Praia do Vau, along picturesque coastline with secluded cove beaches and scenic trails, 5 km west of Praia de Roch on the way to Joao de Arens headland.
  3. East of Praia de Rocha, near the fishing village of Ferragudo, on the eastern bank of the Arade River, there are few beaches.
    • The tranquil Praia dos Caneiros with its beautiful cliffs and high waves
    • The large great for children Praia do Pintadinho.
    • The small Praia do Molhe.
    • The large, great for families Praia Grande.

Praia da Rocha is oriented to families and older couples.

  1. Children will enjoy the Slide and Splash Water Park in Lagoa, 8 km to the northeast, the Zoomarine Marine Park, 27 km to the east, and skydiving in the Aerodromo de Portimao.
  2. Grownup will enjoy Penina Golf, 13 km to the northeast, and Alto golf club, 4 km east of the resort.
  3. Enjoy boat cruises from its Marina to the magnificent Algarve Caves including the famous Benagil Cave east of town, Dolphin watching cruises, and Arade River upstream cruise to the historic Silve, the former Moorish capital of Algarve.
  4. Another half day enjoyable visit is to the charming fishing villages of Ferragudo east of the resort on the eastern bank of the Arade River, and to Alvor 7 km to the west with its beautiful beaches and great atmosphere.

Praia da Rocha beach resort closes for winter, from October to Easter.
