The Tuscany region with its capital Florence (Firenze) is part of central Italy.
The region is one of the most popular regions in Italy, known for its rural landscapes, Art treasures lead by local old masters such as da Vinci and Michelangelo, and great local cuisine and wines.

The hilly countryside landscape with its Olive trees, wheat fields and cypress trees, and above all the vineyards covering the hills slopes, are as beautiful as anyone can imagine.

Combined with the Medieval hilltop towns and villages, the churches, museums, medieval castles and art treasures, Tuscany will be a perfect place for a tranquil, culture absorbing trip.

Visit Florence with its world famous Uffizi Gallery, the Pitti Palace, and dell’accademia museums, the leaning tower of Pisa, the towers of San Gimignano, and the Medici Villas and gardens. Enjoy the works of Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Giotto, and other Renaissance great masters.

Follow the Chianti Classico Route with its charming towns of Greve and Castellina, absorb the pastoral rural landscapes and tour a vineyard and winery while enjoying the great local wines. And it’s not only the Chianti wine, great other wines are produced in Tuscany all for you to enjoy.

On top of the Art Treasures and the rural landscapes, Tuscany has also sandy beaches and snowy mountains offering great outdoor activities opportunities such as swimming, hiking, horse riding, mountain biking, and more.

Traveling in Tuscany can be by trains between the major towns and cities, hiring a car or a Vespa (feeling Italian), or by public transportation, and obviously you can always hike or fly in an Air Balloon.

The climate in Tuscany is generally mild, with the best months for a visit are in the Spring and Autumn. The Summer (July-August) is much warmer and obviously crowded.

When traveling Tuscany, visit Florence and its surroundings for 2-4 days admiring its artistic treasures, the beautiful Medieval streets, the cultural vibes, and much more.
Florence can be a perfect hub for traveling in Tuscany.

Travel west and northwest to Lucca, Pisa and Cinque Terre, the Italian Riviera, and /or travel south to Siena through the Chianti Classico Region, San Gimignano, and further to Val d’Orcia, with its beautiful towns and villages and overwhelming Tuscany landscapes.

Thetjoy.com recommends to take few 1-5 day trips from Florence, or to travel and enjoy a minimum of 8-14 days for a complete Tuscany trip visiting all the major destinations and attractions.

Other, less popular, beautiful regions in Tuscany to explore include;

  • The eastern part of Tuscany including Cortona and Arezzo
  • The western beaches around Castiglione della Pescaia and the magnificent Isle of Elba.
  • The wild scenery and the remains of Italy’s Etruscan heritage, the Maremma, between the towns of Pitigliano, Grosseto, Vetulonia and Massa Marittima in the southern part of Tuscany.

If time allows, drive or take a train from Florence to enjoy the beautiful city of Venice or to Rome, Italy’s capital.
