    The highly popular tourist’ destination comprises, from north to south, the villages of Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso al Mare.

    Cinque Terre, the five small villages with their colorful buildings, the narrow streets, and the small fishing harbors, are located within magnificent and dramatic coastal scenery of sea cliffs falling to the water.

    Located on hills covered with stone walled terraces, Mediterranean trees and orchards, the villages and the people, the culture, and the great Italian food, are a great tranquil settings for a relaxed two days of traveling between the villages, either by hiking, using the local trains, or by boat.

    In the villages and between them there are more than 100 km of hiking trails crossing the hills and settlements. The 12 kilometers coastline hiking trail through all five villages, from Riomaggiore in the south to Monterosso al Mare in the north, is considered one of the best trails in the world. Be sure to verify the status of the trails which might be closed due to weather and trail conditions.

    The best period to visit the region is from Spring to Fall. A one day visit is possible but Thetjoy.com highly recommends to have at least two days or more for a more relaxed visit including strolling the narrow streets, hiking within the fabulous nature, taking a short boat trip, and swiming in the sea.

    To visit the villages you con fly to Pisa, Genova or Florence. Milan is also a possible starting point considering the 3 hour train ride to La Spezia through Genova, which is the best access point to Cinque Terre. Use the local train that serves all the villages, where the village of Monterosso al Mar is also served by the mainline trains.
    Arriving by car to Cinque Terre is not recommended, but if required, take the A370 or the A12 and follow the signs.
    Parking is available at Riomaggiore and Monterosso de Mare. Note that it is advised to leave the car at La Spezia and to take the train into the region
