  • A large historic town in the Garden of England, Kent, set within fertile valleys and ancient woodlands, with the River Medway running through the town center. The town is located between London, 64 km to the northwest, and Canterbury, 46 km to the east. Stroll the town center, visit the Maidstone Museum with its collections of Medieval, Japanese, Roman and Egyptian artifacts, and the Maidstone Carriage Museum with its impressive collection of horse-drawn vehicles.

    Enjoy the Maidstone River Park, and take a river cruise, self-driving boat or a Canoe, to enjoy the River Medway and its surroundings all the way to Tonbridge and Allington. Be sure to visit Leeds Castle, 6 km east of Maidstone, the residence of Medieval kings and queens, and one of the most visited historic buildings in Britain. Near Sissinghurst Castle Gardens, 22 km south of town, visit one or more of the famous Kentish vineyards, Biddenden Vineyards, Chapel Down, and Hush Heath Estate, tour the vineyards and cellars, and taste the award-winning local wines. Families will enjoy Kent Life, north of town, an open-air museum with various fun activities for children.
