  • Khao Yai National Park, 140 km northeast of Bangkok, is a forested plateau
    and mountain terrain part of the Dong Phayayen-Khao Yai Forest Complex,
    one of Southeast Asia’s largest and most intact seasonal tropical forest systems.
    The park supports significant populations of Asian elephants, gaur, banteng,
    sambar deer, barking deer, gibbons, and a remarkable variety of hornbill species.
    The park is one of the best places in Asia to observe great hornbills, wreathed
    hornbills, and oriental pied hornbills in the wild. Tigers and leopards are present
    but rarely seen. The park’s forests are also home to wild pigs, sun bears, pythons,
    monitor lizards, and over 300 bird species. The combination of spectacular wildlife,
    magnificent waterfalls, cool highland temperatures, and the proximity to Bangkok
    makes Khao Yai one of Thailand’s most rewarding and popular national park destinations.
    The park is best visited on weekdays to avoid Bangkok weekend crowds,
    preferably for 1-2 days to fully exploit the great nature experience.
