• The Pantheon

A former Roman temple of the 2nd century, converted to a church dedicated to St. Marry and the Martyrs in the 7th century. It is one of the best-preserved of all Ancient Roman buildings, with its dome being the world’s largest unreinforced concrete dome, 43 meters high and similar internal circular diameter. The building is cylindrical with an elevated entrance area of 16 large granite Corinthian columns. Upon entry, visitors face an enormous rounded room covered by the dome, with a circular opening at its pick. During the Renaissance period Catholic additions were made with chapels and tombs decorated with paintings, frescos, and sculptures.
