• The Arkadi Monastery

An Eastern Orthodox monastery positioned on a plateau in the rural foothills of Mount Psiloritis, 20 km southeast of Rethymno. The hill’s surrounded plateau is covered with vineyards, olive groves pine, oak and Cyprus forests, and traditional villages of Byzantine origin. The fortified monastery complex is surrounded by a thick and high wall, and it includes the hegumen’s house, the monks’ cells, a refectory, stockrooms, a powder magazine, and a hospice.
The charming 16th century Renaissance church architecture is a mix of Roman and baroque styles. It’s a beautiful, interesting and peaceful complex worthwhile visiting. Enjoy the monastery beautiful small gardens and terraces and enjoy the great landscape of the surrounding mountains.
