• Si Satchanalai Historical Park

Si Satchanalai functioned as a secondary capital to Sukhothai and is home to several beautiful monuments within forested hillside along the Yom River, 50 km north of Sukhothai.
The site is less popular than Sukhothai resulting in a more tranquil atmosphere. The park is easily visited for 2-3 hours using a rented car or motorbike, or by an organized tour from Sukhothai. The major Si Satchanalai historical park’s attractions are:

  • Wat Chang Lom
    The “Temple Surrounded by Elephants” featuring a large Sri Lankan-style bell stupa with 39 life-sized beautiful and highly preserved elephant sculptures emerging from the base with their trunks supporting the monument.
  • Wat Chedi Jet Thaew
    The “Temple of Seven Rows” contains seven rows of small chedis arranged in a unique architectural composition creating striking geometry against the sky.
  • Wat Phra Si Ratana Mahathat
    The main temple of the city has several stupas each built in different time periods resulting in a different architectural style. The main attraction in the temple is the seated Buddha statue.

Ban Pa Yang Village is a traditional pottery village near Si Satchana
lai producing the region’s Sawankhalok ceramics applying old craftmanship traditions. Visitors experience the old pottery making traditions and purchase pottery locally produced.
