• Parco Fluviale dell’Alcantara

Alcantara River Park is home to 50 kilometers of river and streams, magnificent deep Basalt gorges, waterfalls and water pools, and beautiful rich vegetation home to many animal species.

The park at Motta Camastra, Messina, is located 17 km west of Taormina and 53 km northwest of Catania, between Motta Camastra and contrada Larderia.

The Gola’s of Alcantara are Basaltic canyons of volcanic eruption origin, with 50 meters high Basaltic walls, resulting impressive and picturesque landscape. The Gola is 400 meters long, but for safety reasons, only 200 meters are accessible. Most tourists come just to see the most popular Gola, but there are additional amazing 5 smaller canyons with small lakes and waterfalls.

You can hike in various trails along the top of the gorge, or in the gorge along the river, exploring the park, the unique gorge Basalt walls, and the river.
Or you can go down to the gorge, the river, and the small pebble river’s bank beach, using an elevator or the steps trail.

While in the river you can hike the river upstream, ride mountain bicycles, and enjoy horseback riding.
In the river you can swim, enjoy raw boats and canoes, kayak down the Alcantara river with various levels of difficulty, and perform body rafting.

There is a convenient bus available from Taormina to the park. For additional information and the available trails explore http://www.parcoalcantara.it
