The Netherlands is a small and charming country located in northwestern Europe, bordering Germany to the east, Belgium to the south and the North Sea to the north and west. The official language is Dutch, although Dutch people can communicate freely in English and German.

The country is famous for its wealth of cultural heritage, flat lands landscapes, charming and picturesque towns and villages with their water canals lined with 17th centuries architecture, its Windmills and blooming Tulip fields, and its famous painters.

A welcoming attitude to visitors, the many sights and attractions, and the excellent public transportation network, makes the Netherlands and it’s capital Amsterdam, a great destination to visit, by itself or in addition to a cross-country European trip.

Explore its unique museums, visit the famous Red-Light District, relax in a flowers market, take a boat cruise in the beautiful canals, and learn about the coffee shops selling Cannabis. Explore the villages and towns of Volendam, the beautiful fishing village, Haarlem, Leiden and the beautiful and vibrant Utrecht.

Families with children will be excited spending time in the Harderwijk Dolphinarium, the largest marine mammal park in Europe, Madurodam miniature park, Efteling Theme Park, Walibi Holland, the large amusement park, and more.

Rent a bike and cruise the towns, villages and the flat tranquil countryside, and in the summer enjoy the beautiful sandy beaches from the peninsulas of Zeeland to the wild Wadden Islands in the north.

The best time to visit the Netherlands is in April, May, September, or October. Get to the Netherlands through Schiphol connecting Amsterdam to most of the Globe’s countries, or by driving from Belgium or Germany.

Note that Amsterdam the country’s capital and major destination is in the center of the country, hence you can make Amsterdam your home base for your country visit, either staying in Amsterdam or in a nearby town or village.
