A charming small town with a popular Hot Springs, 20 km east of Montalcino, offering great views of Val d’Orcia and the distant Rocca di Tentennano in Castiglione d’Orcia. The town’s location has been mentioned since the days of the Etruscans and the Romans. The spring bicarbonate-sulfate-alcalinoterreos-hyperthermic waters, at 49°Celsius, are recorded to be used for their therapeutic characteristics by Emperor Federico II in the 12th century.
Several ancient water mills positioned along the Orcia river together with a complex system of water canals and gorges, allows the springs water to flow and constitute the Parco dei Mulini (Park of the Mills). Enjoy free hot pools for pleasure and for its therapeutic values in the park located near the town’ center. The main hot springs establishment in town is the Santa Caterina next to the main square, and hotels based luxurious spa centers.
