  • The beautiful 14th century hilltop town, 40 km south of Siena, home to the famous and highly appreciated Red Brunello di Montalcino and Rosso di Montalcino wines. Located in Val d’Orcia, the town is surrounded by fortified walls, with a massive 14th century Medieval castle. The castle is located in the town’s historic center, rich with gorgeous architecture and artistic treasures. Walk the steep narrow paved streets, visit Piazza del Popolo, Palazzo Vescovile, and Palazzo dei Priori, and window shop the small, enchanting shops.
    Watch the clock tower near Palazzo dei Priori, and visit the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Soccorso, and the churches of Sant’ Agostino and Sant’ Egidio. Visit the Museo Civico Dioceziano of Sacred Art with its magnificent collection of paintings, wooden sculptures, and archeological artefacts. In the Castle of Poggio alle Mura, explore the collection of Glass articles from the Egyptian period through to Roman and Renaissance Florence Glass masters. In July, do not miss the famous Jazz & Wine Festival held in the town’s castle.
    On the way to Montalcino you will pass rolling sunny hills covered with flowers, olive groves, oak trees, vineyards, and cypress trees, all together a glorious image of rural Tuscany. In the local restaurants and wine bars, and while traveling in Val d’Orcia, enjoy the local products of Red and White Wines, Honey, Olive oil, Tuscan “salumi” meats and pecorino cheese.
