• Hofn to Egilsstadir and Lake Myvatn

  • Continue Iceland’s circular trip from Hofn, traveling northeast through the eastern fiords, to enjoy small fishing villages, spectacular fiords and sweeping landscapes, before continuing west to Myvatn Lake and Akureyri.
    The 350 km road from Hofn to Lake Myvatn, with short stops on the way, will take at least 1 day of long driving.

    There are few attractions on the way of which we would recommend a visit including Papey Island for Puffins watching, the charming village of Seyoisfjorour, for the magnificent landscapes on the way and those of the village surroundings, and the Namaskaro Pass fascinating Geothermal field of many hot springs and fumaroles on the Ring Road, 5 km east of Lake Myvatn.

    A visit of the Hengifoss Fall is also worthwhile if you feel that you did not see enough waterfalls, but the 3-4 hours visit and detour will make it hard to conclude the route in one day.     • Rjukandi Fall, the overwhelming and misty series of waterfalls right on the Ring Road
    • The magnificent and unique Studlagil Canyon where blue-green waters flows within hexagonal basalt columns walls, and its beautiful 15 meters high Studlafoss Fall.
    • Right before reaching Myvatn Lake stop at Namaskaro Pass, a fascinating Geothermal field home to many hot springs and fumaroles.
