• Whitby

A seaside cobbled Georgian old town and beautiful harbor on the east coast of Yorkshire, the jewel of the Yorkshire coastline, 76 km north of York. The fishing port emerged during the Middle Ages, supporting herring and whaling fleets, and was where Captain Cook learned seamanship.
The town’s east cliff is home to the impressive ruins of Whitby Abbey. Other significant attractions include the swing bridge which crosses the River Esk and the harbor, the statues of Captain Cook, the West Pier Lighthouse, and the whalebone arch that sits at the top of the West Cliff.

When in Whitby do not miss a Whale Watching Experience, sailing out of the town’s harbor.
Watch the minke and humpback whales along with white-beaked dolphins and porpoise. 5 km north of town enjoy Sandsend, a long stretch of golden sand beach, a picturesque place to picnic.

South of Whitby, through to Saltwick bay and Ravenscar, you will find the 12 km rugged Dinosaur Coast. This coastline is the best location in northern England to look for Jurassic fossils, dinosaur footprints, and to explore different wildlife in the rock pools.

On the coast stretch between Robin Hood’s Bay Ravenscar, you will be mesmerized by the majestic cliffs and sheltered harbors of the National Park coast.
