  • 17 km long, it is the largest natural lake and most famous in England, one of the most popular locations for holidays, vacations, and summer homes. The lake spans between the busy town of Ambleside in the north and Newby Bridge in the south, with the towns of Bowness, the center of the lake activity, and Windermere on its eastern shore, between them.

    In the lake nineteen islands of which Belle Island opposite Bowness is the largest. The lake is the center for water sports in the Lake District, with numerous boating, sailing, and rowing clubs, water sport centers, and adventure activity companies active around the lake.

    Steamer cruises and train launches operate from Bowness Bay to Waterhead, at Ambleside in the north, and Lakeside in the south. A car ferry crosses the Windermere lake at its center, from Ferry Nab south of Bowness, to Ferry House at Far Sawrey.

    If you and your friends or family likes cycling, try Windermere west Shore Cycle Trail, an amazing 13 km trail with great scenery of the Windermere lake, from Harrow Slack Car Park at Far Sawrey, north on the western shore of the lake to Wray Castle.
