  • Railay is a small peninsula, 2 kilometers long, connected to the mainland but
    with its coast cut off by limestone cliffs. The peninsula is one of southern
    Thailand’s most spectacular destinations, accessed only by boat, hence it’s
    a car free paradise where the only sounds are of waves, birdsong, and those
    of long-tail boat engines echoing off the limestone cliffs. In the peninsula four
    unique, and different from each other, beaches and resorts, offering
    accommodations to suit all type of travelers, from backpackers bungalows to
    luxurious resorts.
    The massive cliffs, 200 meters high, towering above the coast, made Railay
    one of the world’s premier rock climbing destinations with climbing schools,
    equipment to rent, and numerous climbing routes from beginner-friendly to
    terrifyingly overhanging walls that defeat expert climbers.

    The four peninsula’s beaches include Railay West Beach, the most developed
    and upscale, the Railay East Beach with its backpacker’s social scene,
    Phra Nang Beach considered one of Thailand’s, and the world’s, most
    beautiful beaches, and Tonsai Beach and Resort at the northern part of the
    peninsula, considered hardcore climber’s destination.

    Accommodation on Railay is more expensive than in Ao Nang, there are no
    ATMs and basic supplies, and beach necessities are available but with limited
    selection. The beautiful settings with everything within walking distance, the
    beaches, the laidback atmosphere, and the available outdoor activities
    including climbing, kayaking, hiking, or just lying in the sun, all make the
    peninsula a great destination for a 2-7 days’ vacation.
