  • A charming old town 50 km north of the Mediterranean Sea, in Provence, the regional capital of the Gaul region of the Roman Empire. The town is famous for its rich history and well preserved Roman grand monuments, including the Roman Amphitheatre and Arena which is still active for concerts and French bull fighting, the Maison Carree Roman temple, and the impressive Pont du Gard aqueduct near town. Stroll the old town’s historic center with its narrow cobbled streets, trees shaded boulevards, and beautiful small squares and fountains.
    Explore the beautiful Roman Monuments, enjoy the Musee de la Romanite, with its artifacts collection from prehistoric Iron Age through to Gallo-Roman period, and the Musee des Beaux Arts, the fine arts museum presenting 16th to 19th century European paintings. Enjoy a leisure time in the beautiful 18th century Jardins de la Fontaine Park with its Temple of Diana and the Roman Tower of Tour Magne. Absorb the town’s atmosphere in the Les Halles de Nîmes covered market and in the Place aux Herbes flea market. Nimes is known for its fabulous cultural events, concerts, and festivals mostly held in the Roman Amphitheater.
    Enjoy the April/May Les Grands Jeux Romains, the Roman era public games including chariot racing, gladiatorial combats, and more and the June/July musical Festival de Nimes. Other festivals are the July /August Thursday Les Jeudis de Nimes, including outdoor markets, Flamenco, Jazz, and Blues music performances, and the bullfighting events and equestrian shows during the Feria de Pentecote.
    Visit Nimes for 1/2 – 1 day in the Spring through to the Autumn. Near town, visit the impressive Pont du Gard Aqueduct and further away the towns of Avignon, Arles, and Aigues-Mortes and its Pink salt lakes part of the magnificent Camargue Regional Natural Park famous for its pink flamingos.
