  • A village in the mountainous Achaea region, on the bank of the river Vouraikos, 40 km southeast of Patras and 160 km northwest of Nafplio. The village was under Byzantin rule until the 15th century when the Ottoman Turks took control until the 19th century. Near the village enjoy the beautiful Vouraikos Canyon, one of the best nature attractions in Greece, either by taking a 1 hour ride in the famous rack railway, Odontotos, or by hiking the trails in the canyon where you will encounter stunning landscapes, forests, high cliffs, waterfalls, and lush vegetation.
    The village is a major Winter destination with its nearby Helmos ski resort at Xerokambos (www.kalavrita-ski.gr). Visiting the area in Spring and Summer will be also highly enjoyable, visiting the village, its central square and main street home to beautiful small shops, Taverns and Cafes. Also in the village the Municipal Museum of the Kalavrytan Holocaust, displaying and documenting the horrendous activities performed by Nazi soldiers in the village in 1943.
