  • A picturesque 12th century Medieval city in Baden-Württemberg, the sunniest and warmest town in Germany, considered the main gateway to the scenic and highly popular tourists’ destination of the Black Forest region. The town is located near the border triangle of Switzerland, France, and Germany, on the banks of the Dreisam River, in the foot of the Schlossberg Hill, and in the heart of the Baden wine-growing region.

    Stroll the winding cobblestone narrow streets of the picturesque old town, and enjoy the beautiful Gothic buildings, colorful partially timbered houses and charming and lively atmosphere of cafe’s, beer gardens and local cousin culture. With 400 km bike paths it’s rather easy to tour and enjoy this small university town, defined as a green city with numerous parks and gardens including the popular Lake Park, The Municipal Park, and others.

    Freiburg has a large student population, hence a vibrant nightlife scene including bars and pubs, Beer gardens and breweries and clubs, spread all over the city but especially near the university. One of the most popular places is the Kastaniengarten Beer Garden with its beautiful location on Schlossberg hill.

    Enjoy the local Baden wines and tour one of the local vineyards, taste the great local cuisine, the local Brezels, Spatzle/ Knopfle (noodle dish), Flammkuchen (thin pizza) and obviously the 30 cm long ‘Lange Rote’, a sausage served in a baguette with sauteed onions.

    The town holds numerous events and festivals held throughout the year, such as the wine festivals of July and August, the Octoberfest, and many others.

    Freiburg enjoys mild weather all year round with the best time to visit is in late spring through to the autumn.
    To reach Freiburg you can use the good train system with connections to Europe major cities, or by flying into the Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg Euro Airport, or into the further airports in the surrounding German major cities.
