The overwhelming landscapes of the caldera and the island, the charming towns and villages with their whitewashed houses and beautiful narrow alleys, the blue domed churches, and the stunning sunset, all leads Santorini to be ranked the world’s top Island destination by many.

Officially named Thira it is an island in the southern Aegean Sea, about 200 km southeast from the Greek mainland, part of a circular archipelago member of the Cyclades group of islands.
The archipelago is the remnant of a mega volcanic eruption dated to 1,600 years BC which have left a water filled Caldera and volcano craters, and it includes the inhabited islands of Santorini and Therasia, and the uninhabited islands of Nea Kameni, Palaia Kameni, Aspronisi and Christiana.

Visit Fira, the beautiful, vibrant and cosmopolitan capital of Santorini located in the western center on the caldera edge. In town enjoy museums, many shopping opportunities, and vibrant nightlife hotspots.

Visit Oia on the northwestern tip of the island, built on the caldera cliffs it is the most picturesque and lovely village of Santorini. Walk the narrow streets with the whitewashed houses and blue shutters and enjoy the art galleries and numerous tavernas. Ammoudi is a small fishing village below Oia, where you will find Ammoudi bay and beach, home to numerous sea food tavernas and bars. Oia is also one of the best places to experience the Santorini sunset and the overwhelming landscapes of the volcano of Palia and Nea Kameni islands.

Explore and enjoy Santorini attractions, have a great local cuisine dinner overlooking the caldera’s overwhelming landscapes, a glass of local wine while mesmerized by the beautiful sunset, or party in one of the nightlife hangouts, all are experiences that you will carry with you for years to come.

TheTjoy.com recommends at least 3 days visit to the island, including one day boat cruise, visiting some of the island’s attractions and hanging out in one of the beautiful beaches.

When planning your visit consider that in the months of July-September the island is very crowded with tourists, on top of the hot Mediterranean weather.

Santorini has an international airport serving flights from Athens, Thessaloniki, and in the summer season, from major European cities. The two island’s ports, Athinios (Ferry Port) and Skala (Old Port), serve both ferries from Piraeus and other islands and Cruise ships.
