Being the largest national park in the British Island, enjoy unique alpine semi-tundra moorland habitat, home to many rare plants, birds and animals. Part of the park are the Cairngorms mountains range and the surrounding hills, with its southern border near Pitlochry.
In the park, special bird species including breeding ptarmigan, dotterel, snow bunting, golden eagle, ring ouzel, and red grouse. The park forests are home to capercaillie, black grouse, Scottish crossbill, parrot crossbill and crested tit.
Mammal species include red deer, mountain hare, snow bunting, wildcats, as well as the only herd of reindeer in the British Isles. The straths and glens of the national park feature a type of ancient woodland known as the Caledonian forest. The Cairngorms Park is heaven for outdoor enthusiasts, offering mountainous terrain, forest trails, rivers, waterfalls, streams, hidden lakes, and wildlife hotspots. Enjoy also beautiful villages, and Whisky distilleries.
Summer popular outdoor activities include hiking, cycling, mountain biking, climbing, canoeing, and pony riding. In the winter, enjoy skiing, husky racing, and more, in Cairn Gorm Ski Centre, Glenshee Ski Centre, and The Lecht Ski Centre.
