The oldest city in Europe settled by the Phoenicians in the 2nd century BC, and the launch point of Christopher Columbus to America. It’s a nice ancient city half an hour drive South of Jerez de la Frontera and 120 km South of Seville. Cadiz’ main attraction are the numerous Blue Flag sandy beaches adjacent to the city and those part of the Costa de la Luz south and north of Cadiz.

The town has also a beautiful Medieval old center, a charming seaport, a vibrant cosmopolitan culture, and a Mediterranean charm. Stroll the Medieval quarter El Populo Barrio narrow winding cobbled streets, beautiful small squares, old gates, and impressive palaces. Admire the impressive Baroque and Neoclassical Cathedral, the remarkable 1st century BC Roman Theater, one of the largest in Spain, and enjoy the city and bay panoramic landscapes from the The Tavira Tower.

Stroll La Vina, the historic fisherman’s neighborhood, the gypsy quarter of Santa María, and visit the vibrant and colorful Mercado Central, the central food market. For history and culture, visit the Archeology and Fine Arts Museum of Cadiz, and the Gadir Phoenician Archaeological Site.

Enjoy walking the stone way leading to the 18th century San Sebastian Castle located on a small island west of Cadiz. To relax, spend some time in the beautiful waterfront parks of Parque Genoves, or Alameda Park with its beautiful promenade. Enjoy a cup of coffee or delicious seafood at one of the best restaurants and cafes around Plaza de San Juan de Dios or Plaza de Espana.

But on top of all, spend some fun time in one of Cadiz or Costa de la Luz beautiful sandy beaches and the enjoyable seaside resorts south or north of the city.
