• Wiang Kum Kam

Wiang Kum Kam is the partially excavated ruins of an 8th century ancient city that predates Chiang Mai. Founded by the Mon people, it served as King Mengrai’s first capital in the 13th century before water floods forced him to move the capital to Chiang Mai current location.
The site, 5 km south of Chiang Mai, is home to 20 excavated temple ruins, brick stupas and other structures, all scattered across several square kilometers of rice fields, villages, and rural landscape.
The site is best explored for 2-3 hours by bicycle available for rent at the entrance, horse cart tour, or electric tram.
