• Wat Umong

Wat Umong is an unusual temple with tunnels built beneath a chedi creating an underground temple. Above ground, the large stupa stands in picturesque ruins, surrounded by trees and scattered Buddhist sculptures. Positioned around a large pond where visitors feed the enormous fish and turtles, the grounds offer forest meditation platforms, monk huts, and trees hung with Buddhist aphorisms in English and Thai.
The temple is several kilometers west of Chiang Mai Old City and is best reached by motorbike or bicycle.
