• Wat Phra That Doi Suthep

Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is the most sacred Buddhist site in northern Thailand and one of the kingdom’s most important pilgrimage destinations, perched 1,073 meters above sea level on the flank of Doi Suthep mountain, 15 km west of Chiang Mai.
Climb more than 300 steps to reach the temple with its golden chedi of 24 meters high, surrounded by murals, Buddha statues, bells, and offering halls.
It’s a mystical atmosphere at dawn when monks chant and mist rise from the valley, or at sunset when the golden surfaces glow incandescent.
The views of Chiang Mai valley, the city, fields and mountains, are magnificent.
An elevator is available for those unable to climb the stairs.
The road to Doi Suthep continues upward to the Phu Phing Royal Palace which has limited opening hours, and to the summit of Doi Pui with its Hmong village, mountain views, and access to Doi Suthep-Pui National Park trails.
