Wat Chedi Luang’s massive ruined stupa is dominating the Old City center, with its massive square base rising to a truncated peak, serpent staircases climbing each of the four sides, and elephant walls supporting the corners. A jade replica of the Emerald Buddha, Thailand’s most sacred religious statue, now in Bangkok’s Grand Palace, is positioned in the eastern niche. Also in the temple’s complex, a beautiful, large assembly hall and active monk quarters. Monk Chat sessions are held daily in the early afternoon offering an opportunity for visitors to converse with English-practicing monks about Buddhism, monastic life, and Thai culture.
