• Vulcano

The island is famous for its hot springs’ mud baths (‘fanghi’), the smoking sulfurous fumaroles smell, and the smoking main crater of Gran Cratere della Fossa.

Vulcano is quite popular in the summer, especially for one day trips from Lipari, climbing to the impressive crater and visiting its small villages of Gelso and Vulcano Piano.
On the island’s north end, at Porto di Ponente, enjoy Pozza dei Fanghi, a pool of thick warm mud, excellent for rheumatic pains and skin diseases, and swim at the scenic Black sand beach, Spiaggia Sabbie Nere.

Near town, off the road to Gelso, you will find the one hour trail to the smoking crater of Gran Cratere della Fossa.

In Capo Grillo viewpoint, 7 km southeast of Vulcano port near Piano, enjoy the breathtaking views of land and sea of Lipari and Salina, with Panarea, Stromboli and Filicudi in the distance.

In Gelso’s small and picturesque harbor enjoy the two secluded black sand beaches of Spiaggia dell’Asino and Spiaggia Cannitello, excellent for swimming and sunbathing.
