• Villa Romana del Casale

Large 3rd century Roman villa of presumably Maximianus Herculeus, rich with a vast collection of extraordinary Roman mosaics and frescoes.

The Roman villa is located 3 km southwest of Piazza Armerina, and 30 km south of Enna in central Sicily.
The villa is a Must See even though it is far from any of the Sicily major destinations, 157 km southeast of Palermo, and 90 km west of Catania in the east coast.

The 3,500 sqm villa with its 50 rooms and units, has vast and amazing art treasures of mosaics and frescoes beautifully preserved and covering the floors and some walls.
The villa structure itself is almost completely in ruin.

The vast series of scenes displayed in the amazing and most impressive colorful mosaic floors, describes the day to day life of that period including hunting, fishing and dancing scenes, mythological figures and much more.

Famous mosaic scenes on display are the “Bikini Girls” mosaic describing Roman women dressed in bikini swimsuit, enjoying themselves while exercising and playing.
Another remarkable mosaic is the “Great Hunt” which includes many large exotic animals’ figures and hunting associated activities.

When traveling from Palermo in the northwest, or Agrigento in the south, to the east coast cities of Catania or Syracuse, be sure to stop at this amazing art attraction which will live you with its mosaic scenes for a long time.
