Beautiful ruins of Urquhart Castle, a highly popular attraction dated to the 13th to the 16th centuries, on the west shore of Loch Ness, 21 km south of Inverness. The castle played a role in the Wars of Scottish Independence, and was subsequently held as a royal castle, raided on several occasions by the MacDonald Earls of Ross.
