A village in Cappadocia, Nevşehir Province, 4 km southwest of Goreme, on the southwest edge of Goreme National Park. The village is dominated by a 60 meters high Rock Castle, shaped like a tower. In the perforated rock a network of underground passageways and small rooms, used as a ~1,000 people residential area and a monastery in the Byzantine period. The landscape from the castle top is impressive with various rock formations and Fairy Chimneys scattered around.
In the village center visit a vast underground gallery which might have been used to connect the castle to the village. Hike from the village northeast for two hours, through the Pigeon Valley to Goreme, and explore the interesting carved structures on the cliffs with the birds nesting niches inside. There are quite a few nice hotels and restaurants in the village.
