• Thonburi, Bangkok’s Other Bank

Thonburi lies across the Chao Phraya River and the Old City, with the Bangkok Yai and Bangkok Noi canals running through it.
These are the city’s most atmospheric waterways, lined with wooden stilted houses, small temples, and local life that has barely changed in decades. A long-tail boat tour through these canals is one of Bangkok’s most authentic and memorable experiences.
Wat Arun on the Thonburi bank is a famous landmark, and the nearby Royal Barge Museum is interesting, home to the magnificent gilded royal ceremonial barges used in the annual Kathin procession.
