• The Wachau Valley

A narrow and rocky 40 km long Valley created by the Danube River between the towns of Melk and Krems and considered the most beautiful part of the Danube. In the valley small medieval picturesque towns, forests and vineyards covered hills, and castles and abbeys overlooking the beautiful valley and the Danube River. Visit the impressive Melk Abbey, and the Renaissance Schallaburg Castle and gardens, six km south of Melk. In the abbey enjoy the Gothic chapel, a magnificent courtyard with 1,600 terracotta figures, exhibition center and gorgeous period gardens.
When traveling in the valley be sure to visit in addition to the towns of Krems and Melk, the beautiful Medieval small town of Durnstein, and the town of Aggsbach-Dorf, with its famous and highly decorated Servite monastery of Maria Langegg. Enjoy the beautiful frescoes and interesting pilgrimage museum in the monastery. The valley offers beautiful hiking trails and the Donauradweg cycling route, one of the most beautiful in Austria.
