• The Sistine Chapel

Located in the Apostolic Palace, the official residence of the pope, the chapel is the site of the papal conclave, the process by which a new pope is elected. The chapel is known for its interior walls and ceiling frescos, specifically the 16th century ceiling fresco, the Last Judgment by Michelangelo, and 15th century frescoes describing the Life of Moses and of Christ. The frescoes were painted by Renaissance artists such as Botticelli, Perugino, Pinturicchio, Ghirlandaio and Rosselli.
