• The National Tile Museum

Lisbon is famous for the use of decorative ceramic tiles, azulejos, decorating its palaces, villas, and the street walls. The Museu Nacional do Azulejo, within a magnificent 16th century convent, is home to a vast collection of marvellous colourful ceramic tiles. The tile panels on display are from the Moorish period, the 15th century Renaissance, and the baroque period. Some of the tiles are displayed separately, others are part of large murals dissipating various events. The museum is located within a beautifuly restored 16th century Manueline convent on the eastern part of Lisbon.
