• The Monastery of St Martin of Tibaes

Mosteiro de Sao Martinho de Tibaes, 6 km west of Braga, was originally founded in the 6th century, and later rebuilt in the 17th century and reconstructed again following a fire in the 20th century. The monastery church, one of the grandest in Portugal, is known for its magnificent Rococo interior including the main altarpiece, the gilded woodwork in the main chapel, the tiles panels, the beautiful lateral altarpieces, and the numerous impressive statues and 16th century paintings. The monastery is surrounded by vineyards, orchards and forest.
