• The Monastery of Prophet Elias

There are numerous churches and chapels in Santorini built with Cycladic architecture design and beautiful whitewashed and blue-domed exterior. Visit the 18th century Monastery of Prophet Elias surrounded by four small chapels and located 3 km south of Pyrgos village on the summit of Mount Profitis Ilias. In the monastery an impressive bell tower, four chapels, and the Folklore and Ecclesiastical Museums.
In the museum Icons and Relics Collection, religious books and documents, art works, and more, all within the Agia Triada chapel. The monastery is located on the highest point in the island, hence providing a beautiful scenery of the island and the caldera especially at sunset. To reach the monastery follow the uphill path from the central square of Pyrgos.
