• The Koh Phangan Parties Scene

Full Moon Parties
Every month on the night of the full moon, Haad Rin Beach transforms into a massive beach rave attracting 10,000-30,000 participants, where the number of visitors peak in December-February and July-August and drop to 5,000-10,000 in slower months. The party runs from 9 pm to sunrise and beyond, with numerous stages and bars playing different music genres, fire shows, bucket drinks, and atmosphere of mass celebration.
The crowds are mostly international from all over the globe, ages 18-30 with some 30-40 years old, mostly backpackers and budget travelers.
It’s a unique and memorable experience, intensely commercial, trashy, and sometimes dangerous. Note that the Half Moon Festival, Shiva Moon, and other smaller parties offer similar atmosphere with more manageable crowds and less extreme commercial/safety issues.
The Atmosphere is exhilarating and overwhelming, the energy is genuine, generated from thousands of people dancing under the full moon on a tropical beach. The scene is also Intensely commercial, Dirty, potentially dangerous, and Drug-saturated. Important part of the scene are safety issues to be taken into considerations including theft, drink safety, swimming while drunk, severe drug laws, sexual Assault, and more.
