• The Grand Palace, Wat Phra Kaew

The Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, is the most popular attraction and the most sacred temple in Thailand. Built in 1782 the palace serves as the official residence of the Thai kings. The complex grounds present multiple Thai royal periods’ magnificent architecture with gilded spires, colorful glazed tiles, mosaics, and magnificent stone and wood carving.
Wat Phra Kaew which stands on the palace grounds is the spiritual heart of the kingdom, home to the 66 cm tall sitting Budha made of a single piece jade-green jasper.
The exterior walls of the temple complex are lined with 178 mural panels depicting the entire epic of the Hindu story of Ramayana, with gilded Kinnaree, guardian demon statues, and golden chedis (stupas).
Visit the palace for 2-3 hours while dressed conservatively, preferably early before the large crowds arrive.
