• The Cappella Sansevero

A 17th century chapel with numerous 18th century Rococo sculptures and other artifacts by some of Italy leading artists of that time. The most famous and impressive sculpture is Giuseppe Sanmartino’s 18th century Marble Veiled Christ, a masterpiece of expression. Also in the chapel, the impressive Veiled Truth by Antonio Corradini, the Release from Deception by Francesco Queirolo, a ceiling fresco, the Glory of Paradise by Francesco Maria Russo, and the Madonna con Bambino painting by Giuseppe Pesce. In the Chapel basement two 18th century “anatomical machines”, and examples of “human metallization” implemented by anatomist Giuseppe Salerno. The real “models” are highly preserved, however recent analysis of the “blood vessels” indicate that they are constructed of artificial materials.
