• The Bayeux Tapestry

Magnificent craftsmanship tapestry, 70 meters long and 50 cm high, stitched on linen rather than on tapestry. The highly preserved 11th century artwork was commissioned by Bishop Odo of Bayeux, William the Conqueror’s half-brother, for the opening of Bayeux‘s new cathedral in 1077. Displayed in the Bayeux Tapestry Museum, it illustrates in detailed images and symbols the events leading to Duke William of Normandy’s conquest of England, scenes of medieval daily life and war, and more.
