A small market town on the River Avon, 24 km north of Broadway in the Cotswolds, and 80 km northwest of Oxford. The small town is a popular tourist attraction, known for being the hometown of the great English playwright and poet, Willian Shakespeare, and the Royal Shakespeare company. If you are a Shakespeare fan you will enjoy a half day tour in which you will explore and absorb the Shakespearean 16th century period.

  • Start your visit in Stratford, where the canal meets the River Avon, admiring the impressive monument of Shakespeare, surrounded by sculptures of his plays’ characters.
  • Visit the restored Shakespeare’s birthplace cottage on Henley Street, enjoying the 16th century decor, the authentic period items, and Shakespeare’s memorabilia at the cottage shop.
  • Visit the picturesque and lovely Anne Hathaway’s, Shakespeare’s wife Tudor cottage, 2 km from the town centre, and explore the many family “treasures” on display while absorbing the spirit of the period and enjoying the gorgeous gardens.
  • In the Holy Trinity Church visit Shakespeare’s and his wife’s tomb, and in the Tudor World Museum you would enjoy displays of the 16th century day to day life.

For a complete Shakespearean experience enjoy a theatre show, to be booked in advance in the prestige Royal Shakespeare Theatre riverside complex. And for some leisure time, stroll the peaceful Avon riverbanks, enjoying the boaters, the Swans and the lush vegetation.
