• Savoca

A hilltop village above the Ionian Sea, 20 km north of Taormina and south of Messina.

The beautiful small village is known for being one of the filming locations of the 1972 ‘The Godfather’ trilogy by Francis Ford Coppola, together with the village of Forza d’Agrò, 5 km south of Savoca.

In Savoca visit the small square in the center of the village and the famous well preserved Bar Vitelli in the 18th century Palazzo Trimarchi, which was used for several scenes in The Godfather movie.

Walk the narrow uphill road to the left of the bar, enjoying a beautiful scenery, reaching the Church of Saint Lucia which was the location of the wedding scene in The Godfather movie.

Walking another road to the right of the bar you will reach the Chiesa Madre and the 16th century Capuccini Monastery, with its 18th century well preserved mummified remains of 32 monks, some still with their period costumes.
