• San Kamphaeng Craft Route

The San Kamphaeng Road, 13 km east from Bo Sang umbrella village through the village of San Kamphaeng, is northern Thailand’s traditional craft route. Along the route, villages specializing in silk weaving, pottery, lacquerware, silverwork, and wood carving. Although the route has become somewhat touristy, genuine craftsmanship continues operating and traditional skills can still be experienced.
Silk villages demonstrate handweaving on traditional looms, producing the distinctive northern Thai silk patterns and Pottery workshops create celadon-glazed ceramics in traditional kilns. Lacquerware factories show the painstaking process of building up lacquer layers on bamboo or wood forms, then carving designs through the layers. Prices at the showrooms are high, but better deals are available in side streets and smaller family workshops.
