A 10th century Gothic-Romanesque abbey 38 km west of Torino. It’s an impressive architectural complex located on the summit of Mount Pirchiriano above the village of San Pietro. The monastery was the inspiration of Umberto Eco’s masterpiece The Name of the Rose. On the way to the abbey on via SP186 you will drive through the Parco Naturale dei Laghi di Avigliana near the Primavera village. This lovely nature reserve includes a natural amphitheater, lakes and marshlands. You can also reach the Abby by hiking a few possible trails from the park.
