• Pyramid of Cestius

An ancient pyramid built as a tomb for the noble man Gaius Cestius, the only one left in Rome, near the Porta San Paolo. Built in 12-18 BC, it is 37 meters high and 30 meters square at the base. Inside the pyramid a burial chamber which was decorated with frescoes of which only traces survived. The pyramid is open to the public every third and fourth Saturday of each month. Tours should be booked in advance.
