Take a ferry south of Istanbul to Princes’ Islands, and specifically to the vehicle’s free islands of Buyukada or Heybeliada. Enjoy the sandy beaches, local harbors, and a peaceful stroll in the towns center.

The Princes’ Islands is a chain of nine small islands in the Sea of Marmara close to Istanbul, constituting the Adalar district of Istanbul Province. The islands are a popular summer day tours for both tourists and locals, offering a tranquil retreat from Istanbul hectic vibes.

Only four islands are open for visit and of those the two most popular are Büyükada and Heybeliada islands. The islands boast their peace and quiet environment by banning all motorized vehicles, where local transportation means are horse carriages and bicycles.

The islands are also unique for their 19th century wooden Victorian houses, narrow streets and pine-forests. Reach the islands by ferries from Bostancı, Kartal and Maltepe on the Asian side, and from Kabataş on the European side. Büyükada Island, the largest of the Prince Islands and the most popular one. In the island sandy beaches, 19th century wooden Victorian houses, and a nice town center to stroll around with its small shops, restaurants, bars, and cafes. Tour the island in a horse carriage, rented bicycles, or by foot, and visit the 6th century St George’s (Ayia Yorgi) Monastery, the Ayios Dimitrios Church, and the Hamidiye Mosque. Enjoy the beautiful and popular Princess Bay Beach, Hagia Nikola Beach, and Halik Bay Beach, among others.

Heybeliada Island, the 2nd largest island is home to the Turkish Naval Academy, and an 11th century Greek Orthodox monastery. It is a nice quiet island to explore and to enjoy the town centre with its many shops, restaurants and patisseries.
